The Institute uses competency-based skills testing, an emotional intelligence assessment, and verification of patient navigation experiences. It ensures that patient navigation professionals have the critical skills and aptitudes needed to be successful practitioners and qualify as a Certified Professional Patient Navigator (CPPN).​
