Patient Navigator Competencies

The Patient-Centered Education & Research Institute (PCERI) and the National Navigation Round Table (NNRT) have similar expectations about what patient navigators need to know.  PCERI has incorporated NNRT  standards into its forty-six patient navigator competencies and is implementing certification testing to reflect this change. Patient Navigation Network

Healthcare is moving to a patient-centered, evidence-based approach but it will need the help of patient navigation professionals - patient navigators, advocates, and community health workers - to get there. A disjointed medical care system desperately needs the skills of these professionals.

Join our effort to shape patient navigation by participating in the Patient Navigation Network.  Our focus is on providing communication and professional development opportunities for those who serve as patient navigators, advocates, and community health workers.  Benefits include:
  • ·a quarterly email newsletter,
  • ·information about happenings in patient navigation,
  • ·grant and research opportunities,
  • ·employment and entrepreneurial options in patient navigation,
  • ·conferences and continuing education events, and
  • ·professional engagement opportunities.

Your membership  is one vehicle for improving the world of patient navigation.  Your comments, suggestions, news, and ideas are sought as we advance the role of patient navigation in patient-centered care.  It is a first step as we encourage a community of patient navigation professionals.
